Wedding Music Ideas

Wedding Entertainment

Before in the hold of this the COVID-19 virus,  I was all set to play some fantastic wedding songs for this years spring and summer weddings. I was genuinely looking forward to playing a mix of acoustic wedding songs and now, things have change quite a bit for everyone involved in the wedding industry. Amounts these challenging time however, I’m trying to stay positive so... In this period of reflection I’d like to share some musical ideas for couples to consider plus look to offer some first hand experiences of what wedding songs, acoustic guitar and general wedding music work well at various parts of the day so here are some wedding music ideas for you:)

Wedding Ceremony Music

The scene is set for your wedding ceremony and music can play a huge role in adding to the right ambience - obviously you’d like your guests to be relaxed and want the music to help create this - and the right song selections can make all the difference. From experience, the many requested wedding songs for the wedding ceremony include: Here Comes The Sun, The Beatles; A Thousand Years, Christina Perri; Perfect, Ed Sheeran, Your Song, Elton John; Marry Me, Train; I’m Yours, Jason Mraz and Better Together, Jack Johnson.

Unique Wedding Cover Songs

Of course there are many more with some unique/different wedding songs that work well for the ceremony too including: Everlong, The Foo Fighters; Sweet Pea, Amos Lee; Use Somebody, The Kings of Leon; Only Love, Ben Howard; Heartbeats, Jose Gonzalez; Fields of Gold, Sting and The Wonder of You; Elvis Presley. Again the above lists only ‘scratch the surface’ and what’s most important is the music considers couples own tastes and is therefore bespoke. I often learn wedding songs for couples to help keep with their musical taste and vision for how it can really add to the specialness of the wedding day!

Drinks Reception Music

For the drinks reception is a time for celebration! Though in keeping with the wedding vibe the focus is generally chilled with a ‘happy go lucky’ feel. Requests are often taken and the whole idea is to allow the music and songs support the ambience - it’s about you and your guests socialising with some nice music in the background to chill out and enjoy!

Wedding Breakfast Music

During the wedding breakfast experience counts for a lot. It’s important to play the “right” songs at the “right” moment. This maybe even include some nice guitar instrumentals like “Since We Met” by Tommy Emmanuel or “Over The Rainbow” by Harold Arlen. I think it’s really important to be ‘unobtrusive’. Music should create an ambience and allow guest to chat and chill out. Equally, I’ve had guests singing along to songs during the wedding breakfast - so really it’s about judging the crowd.

First Dance Wedding Songs

So where do I start? I’ve played an entire mix of first dance songs. Naturally, a first dance song is a song that holds great meaning to the couple. This could be a comical song, rock pop, folk...obviously I adapt any wedding first dance song to fit the acoustic guitar and try to give it some of my own style so the song is very unique. I find clients like songs to be presented in my style. Common requested first dance songs include: Marry You, Bruno Mars; Signed Sealed Delivered; All You Need Is Love, The Beatles; Thinkin’ Out Loud, Ed Sheeran; Shut Up & Dance, Walk The Moon and Little Things, One Direction (Ed Sheeran). Of course there are many more wedding songs and I’m always will to learn a first dance song for couples. Most importantly for me is to get it right to make the live first dance that extra but special.

The internet has some great ideas too. Wedding Songs in summary...
